09/19/07 - Beer Dancers...

I was having a beer yesterday with a friend. A nice German Hefeweizen (aka Hefeweißbier). The chilled frosty mug that was served with the German import was a bit small, so I found myself pouring in stages... careful to produce a bit of head, but not too much. I was enjoying the ritual of alternating pouring stages with a swirl of the bottle to wash up the un-filtered yeast that had settled to the bottom.

With an inch or so of cloudy liquid left in the green bottle, I poured a bit of it into my mug. Watching the head foam, an agitated sparkle caught my eye. When I looked closer, I observed a small bubble dancing about the surface of the beer... rapidly darting around. It only lasted for a moment, but it was quite remarkable.

I spent the last 3/4" of the bottle attempting to reproduce the event, and actually managed to get another very short glimpse. I wonder how many beer dancers I have produced that have gone unnoticed?
